Work/Life Fit (traditionally know as work/life balance) is about empowerment and creating a lifestyle that fosters both personal and professional life at the same time. Between industry research and real-world examples, it’s pretty clear that successful recruitment is helped substantially by a firm offering generous work/life fit policies, and both recruitment and retention are significantly hindered when a firm is lacking in those policies. It can even be a driving factor in professionals leaving the A/E/C industry altogether. What’s more, a lack of work/life fit is a leading cause of burnout and uninspired employees, leading to decreased productivity and profitability. If leadership has not identified the importance or need for such policies on their own, it is often left to employees to sound the bell and voice their own dissatisfaction with the status quo.
This presentation will provide information about the impact of work/life fit (or lack thereof), including data and policy solutions focused on three key topic areas: leave allowance, flexible work options, and healthy work environment. This will include an overview of an online toolkit of work/life fit data and resources, developed to empower employees with information and guidance to approach leadership and advocate for real change for themselves and within their companies.
